Chanfrau & Chanfrau is proud to announce that one of our attorneys, Kelly Chanfrau, is being recognized for her representation of nine women in a class-action racial discrimination and harassment lawsuit. The case has recently been featured in The Daytona Beach News-Journal Online and WESH 2 News.

The Case

Kelly Chanfrau and two other employment attorneys, Philesha H. Huggins and Alfred Truesdell, are working on behalf of nine African-American women. According to the class action lawsuit, these employees faced mistreatment, racial discrimination, and retaliation at the nursing home and rehabilitation center where they worked, Ocean View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in New Smyrna Beach.

According to the suit, the discrimination went on for more than two years, and included the use of racially charged language. In addition, all of the women included in the class action suit say they were retaliated against by being fired or forced out of their positions after reporting or complaining about the mistreatment.

Aside from being socially unacceptable, this behavior violates employment laws, which are in place to protect workers from racial discrimination and harassment.

Employment Rights

Kelly Chanfrau and the legal team working on this case are dedicated to protecting employees’ right to a safe and non-discriminatory workplace. No one should have to go to work and face harassment or discrimination because there are state and federal laws in place protecting workers against this type of mistreatment.

According to employment laws, no worker can be discriminated against for their race, age, religion, sexual orientation, or disabilities. Further, the law ensures that all workers have a right to a safe work environment in which they feel secure and protected.
