When it comes to the risk of a car accident, nobody is immune. Car crashes take place virtually every minute, on roads all across the United States. While anyone can be involved in a car accident, crash data demonstrates that some drivers are more prone to car accident involvement.

Here, the car accident lawyers at Chanfrau & Chanfrau present recently released accident data that breaks down drivers in crashes by age group in Florida. This information gives drivers in Daytona Beach, FLPalm Coast, FL, and the surrounding areas greater insight into which groups are most prone to an accident.

Which Age Groups are Most Often Involved in Car Crashes?

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) has released its Traffic Crash Facts for 2018. This annual report breaks down accident data by a number of different categories, one of which is the age of drivers involved in crashes.

There is not a huge discrepancy in the number of car accidents experienced by one particular age group, but data does show that some age groups have slightly higher accident numbers than others. Following are statistics for the age groups with the highest accident numbers:

People sometimes think that accidents occur more often among inexperienced teenage drivers and senior drivers with diminishing response times. This data shows that more accidents in Florida actually involve experienced, young adult drivers. In part, this may be because there are more drivers on the road who fall within these age groups. However, driving practices are another factor, and data shows that these age groups also have higher numbers of crashes related to alcohol and/or drug involvement.

Alcohol Involvement and Crashes by Age Group

Nearly every age group represented in the Annual Crash Report had some accidents related to alcohol involvement. However, alcohol-related car accidents were highest in the age groups that also reported the highest number of total car crashes.

Drug Involvement and Crashes by Age Group

Drug involvement was a factor in far fewer crashes than alcohol. But again, drug use was most prevalent among those age groups with the overall highest crash numbers.
