Driving the Wrong Way Is Deadly

As you can imagine, driving the wrong way down the street is an extremely dangerous and even deadly action. This increases the risk of serious head-on collisions, which can be fatal at high speeds. In addition, this reckless act can result in multi-car collisions as other motorists swerve to get out of harm's way.

There are different instances in which people may drive the wrong way down the road. No matter what the case, it's a dangerous actions.

Driving Down One-Way Streets

While one-way streets can be annoying at times, motorists need to abide by proper traffic laws at all times. Navigating around one-way streets causes some drivers to want to break the law, however. They think they can drive down a one-way street for a short distance in order to claim a parking spot or pull into a driveway. This action puts other drivers at great risk.

Since one-way streets tend to be narrow, attempting to drive against the flow of traffic greatly increases the risk of a collision. Even if there is no crash, it's a major headache to drivers who are following the rules of the road.

Entering Through Exits

Certain lanes or portions of a driveway are designated as entrances or exits. This is a safety measure, and it can help improve the flow of traffic into and out of a parking lots, a parking structure, a convention center, or other sort of establishment. Sadly, there are people who will enter through exits or attempt to exit through a designated entrance lane. This can lead to collisions. Even at low speeds, these accidents can lead to injuries and vehicle damage.

Driving in the Incorrect Lane

The most dangerous form of driving the wrong way is when someone intentionally drives on the wrong side of the road in a lane designated for traffic traveling in the opposite direction. This could be done as an attempt to overtake slower traffic on a two-lane highway. It may also be the result of reckless driving or drunk driving. Whatever the case may be, these instances of driving the wrong way tend to be the most deadly given the speed involved.

Exercise Common Sense as a Driver

Whenever you are behind the wheel of your vehicle, be sure to follow the rules of the road. Be mindful of traffic signs that tell you the direction of traffic, particularly signs that prohibit your entrance into a given lane. Follow the flow of traffic at all times, and be attentive of other motorists. If another driver is being reckless, your attention and quick thinking could mean the difference between a near-miss and a collision.
